Senior Research Scientist Cell Biology/Molecular Physiology Toxicology/Toxicogenomics

Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory (MDIBL), located on Mount Desert Island, Maine, home of Acadia National Park, is a 105-year-old independent research institution with world-class seasonal scientific and educational programs. MDIBL is expanding its year round research program in a new Center for Marine Functional Genomic Studies. MDIBL is also the lead institution establishing an NIH-funded Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network among seven Maine research institutions and colleges and is a NIEHS-funded toxicology center.

MDIBL invites applications for an established senior research scientist. Candidates should have a proven track record of federal funding. Preference will be given to candidates incorporating molecular physiology or cell biology, new marine or fresh water transgenic species, stem cells, toxicogenomics, toxicology, or marine functional genomics in their research program.

Scientific Curator

MDIBL invites applications for a full-time Scientific Curator to work on the NIH-funded, publicly available Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD; http://ctd.mdibl.org). CTD supports cross-species comparative studies of toxicologically important genes and proteins. The successful candidate will be responsible for curating gene-chemical interaction data from the biomedical literature and working with a team of biologists and software developers to develop biological ontologies, determine data curation requirements, and design user interfaces. Applicants with strong backgrounds in molecular biology and toxicology are preferred. This is not an independent research or computer science position. Candidates must have strong communication and writing skills, be highly organized and self-motivated, and work effectively in a team environment. A PhD degree in Life Sciences or an MS with appropriate experience is required.
